With the diet industry worth billions, and growing year on year, how well are the various regimes and products serving people and their long-term physical and mental well-being?

In this episode I’m joined by Caroline Tyrwhitt, NLP trainerand author of the ‘Mindset Diet’, to discuss an alternative to yo-yo dieting, and how Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques make it possible to lose weight withoutgoing on a diet.

Caroline shared, “A lot of the times we are eating with our minds and not with our body because there is so much in our environment that triggers us to make us think we are hungry…

…Once we become aware what is working on a subconsciouslevel for us then we can do something different.”

Be compassionate and curious when observing ourselves and never judgemental.

Q. What’s your food story?

If we can know our own food story, we can look at how andwhere it impacts us. We can change it if we want to change it.

Once we are aware we have a story, we can ask ourselves..

Q. Is it serving me well?

Q. What would I like to change it to?

It’s our thoughts, beliefs and values that drive everythingwe do in life.

We can reframe our food story to align with our values, forexample if you like being creative you could be creative through cooking.

Instead of a deprivation approach, ask…

Q. What can I add into my diet to enhance my health?

Be aware of colours and smells or other sensory triggers inyour environment.

Q. What are the triggers to you in your environment (home,work, supermarket, high street etc)?

Q. What could your strategies be to avoid the environmentaltriggers you are aware of?

The people we surround ourselves with and habits.

Q. How do I behave when I’m around certain people?

Q. How do I feel when I’m around them?

Q. How can you connect less with the people who make youfeel less good about yourself, or people who have you indulge in habits you rather not do?

Q. How can you connect more with people who feed what you want to feel, and the habits you want to have?
