“Fandom” is a tricky and amorphous concept. We have ideas of what it means, but those might be contradictory or at least distinct. The concept of a “Star Wars fan” raises fascinating questions since our fandom contains many groups within it, partly based on age, gender or other demographics. In a franchise spanning (real world) 48 years and (in-universe) multiple centuries, there are many pockets of groups preferring one era over another, and sometimes one era at the expense of another. This week we break down some of these “camps,” and possibly chart the limits of fandom itself.
