I first heard this metaphor years ago, and lately, it’s been on my mind a lot. Like when my youngest had a full-blown tantrum—it was her soup, her emotions, her experience. But my choice? Do I get pulled into the storm, or do I stay steady as the spoon?
Of course, life isn’t always that simple. When we’re exhausted, choosing the spoon takes effort. That’s why grounding tools—like breathwork, music, and mindful practices—can help us reset and respond with more ease.
