A gregarious golden retriever- black Labrador cross that wasn’t cut out for guide dog school has established itself as a star fuel-detecting dog. Sheldon’s handler, Texan firefighter John Tadlock, said the playful pooch “flunked out” of guide dog school but now has a good nose for solving arson cases. Sheldon and his handler can identify fuel and other accelerants at fire sites. Labrador retrievers are often chosen for the job because of their keen sense of smell.
