Sheriff Thomas E. Tuggle II has dedicated over 30 years to law enforcement and public service. After graduating basic training with honors, he served in the United States Marine Corps, deploying to the Middle East in 1991 and earning several distinctions, including the Combat Action Ribbon and a second Navy Achievement Medal. Returning home to Hernando, Thomas joined the police department and graduated Trooper School as top shooter. Rising steadily through the ranks, he earned multiple promotions, graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy, and served as Executive Officer for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety under Governor Haley Barbour, helping manage a $65-$70 million annual budget and securing $25 million in federal funds for officer training.
Thomas later served as Director of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers' Training Academy, overseeing a $1.5 million budget and training over 10,000 city and county officers. After retiring as a Lt. Colonel from the Mississippi Highway Patrol in 2022, he launched a national law enforcement consulting business focused on leadership, ethics, and professional development. A Life Member of the NRA and active in its outreach efforts, Thomas is committed to strengthening law enforcement nationwide. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Linda, and together they have one daughter, Courtney.
