“Make A Way!”
Main point: The coming of Jesus makes the path straight to salvation.
Introduction
Our gospel today breaks easily into three sections.
To our modern ears this first section may sound like a lot of white noise. We hear names and places with little or no association with anything that connects to our knowledge or experience. But in a first century audience, the people who heard these words might glace knowingly at each other and nod their heads a little bit - because they remember those days. The days when Herod, his sons, and his brother Philip ruled the land. The days when Annas and Caiaphas were both high priests.
They were hard times.
They were chaotic times.
The political players were corrupt and the religious leaders weren’t any better.
