⭐️今週のテーマは「素敵な大人の話し方」✨
月曜日のテーマは子供っぽく聞こえない英語表現
英語を一生懸命学んでいるのに、どこか幼く聞こえてしまう…。そんなふうに感じたことはありませんか？
実はそれ、使っている単語や言い回しのせいかもしれません。
英語には日本語のような決まった敬語があまりないということもあって、「大人らしく聞こえる」言葉選びやトーンがとても大切なんです。
今日は、子どもっぽく聞こえてしまう英語のフレーズと会話例、そして、大人の会話にふさわしい自然な言い換え表現と会話例を3つご紹介します！
① I want this.→ I’d like this. / I’ll have this.
“I want…” は直訳すれば「〜が欲しい」。ですが、ストレートすぎて子どもっぽく聞こえがちです。特にレストランで食べ物を注文する時などは注意しましょう！
子供とお母さんの会話
👦 Child: I want this chocolate cake!
👩 Mom: Ok, let’s order it.
👦 Child: Yay! I want the biggest slice!
大人の会話
Customer: I’d like to have this chocolate cake.
Server: Ok. Would you like to have whipped cream with it?
Customer: Yes, please. That sounds perfect — thank you.
レストランでは、
❌ I want this one.（これが欲しい）
✅ I’d like this one, please.（こちらをお願いします）
✅ I’ll have the chicken sandwich.（チキンサンドにします）
② I don’t like it.→ It’s not really my thing.
“I don’t like it.” ははっきりしていますが、少し直接的すぎて、印象がキツくなることも。では、食事の席での会話例です。
子どもの会話例（3歳〜8歳）
👧 Child: I don’t like it. It’s yucky.
👩 Mom: Oh, really? What don’t you like about it?
👧 Child: It’s green. I don’t like green things.
大人の会話パターン：
A: I’m not really a fan of broccoli.
B: Oh? Is it the taste or the texture?
A: Honestly, I think it’s the flavor. Broccoli just isn’t my thing.
I don’t like it.の代わりに I’m not a big fan of this one. という言い方をしています。
他の例で言うと
❌ I don’t like jazz.
✅ Jazz isn’t really my thing.（ジャズはちょっと苦手で）
✅ I’m not a big fan of jazz.（あまり好みではないです）
相手を否定せず自分の好みを伝える便利な言い方です。
③ Yummy!→ This is delicious. / This is really tasty. / This is so good!
「おいしい！」を意味する “Yummy!” は、ネイティブの子どもたちがよく使う表現。
Yummy!” は8歳くらいまでの子供が使うと思います。
子どもとお母さんの会話例（3歳〜8歳）
👧 Child: Yummy! I love this ice cream!
👩 Mom: You really like strawberry flavor, huh?
👧 Child: Yeah! I wanna come back tomorrow!
大人の会話例
A: Mmm, this ice cream is really good.
B: Yeah, the strawberry flavor is surprisingly rich. I didn’t expect that.
A: Right? I wouldn’t mind coming back tomorrow
❌ Yummy!
✅ This is delicious!
✅ This is really tasty.（とてもおいしい）
