APRIL 20 - Faith That Works
3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 14:23; Psalm 32; Romans 4

“In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.” — Proverbs 14:23
“Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” — Psalm 32:1
“That is why his faith was ‘counted to him as righteousness.’” — Romans 4:22

It’s easy to talk about doing the right thing—studying for that test, apologizing to a friend, or spending time with God. But just talking doesn’t get us anywhere. Proverbs reminds us that only when we do the work does it bring any real benefit (Proverbs 14:23).
At the same time, Psalm 32 shows us that while we fall short and mess up, there’s freedom and joy in being forgiven by God. And Romans 4 reminds us that even before we do anything “perfect,” what really counts is faith. Abraham was called righteous not because he earned it but because he believed God.
So, how do these connect? True faith isn’t just belief in your head—it shows up in your choices, in the way you speak, act, and even admit when you’ve messed up. God sees and honors faith that’s lived out, not just talked about.

THINK ABOUT IT
1. Talk vs. Action: Are there areas where you talk a lot about change, but don’t follow through? What small step could you take today to turn intention into action?
2. Owning Your Mistakes: Psalm 32 reminds us that hiding sin only weighs us down. What might you need to bring into the light today so you can experience the joy of forgiveness?
3. Faith That Moves: Abraham’s story in Romans 4 isn’t about perfect behavior—it’s about trusting God even when it’s hard. Where in your life is God calling you to trust Him more deeply?

BOTTOM LINE
Faith isn’t just about what we say we believe—it’s about trusting God enough to live like it’s true. That means taking action, being honest when we fall short, and relying on His forgiveness to keep going.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that my worth isn’t based on being perfect but on trusting You. Help me to put my faith into action—not just in big things, but in everyday choices. When I mess up, remind me that there is forgiveness in You and joy when I’m honest. Teach me to work with purpose, trust with courage, and walk in the freedom You give.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
