“When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers. One who wanders from the way of good sense will rest in the assembly of the dead.” — Proverbs 21:15–16

“The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God.” — Psalm 92:12–13

“I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I became in my imprisonment.” — Philemon 1:10

Sometimes doing the right thing feels like you're swimming upstream—like you're the only one who cares about truth, kindness, or what God says is right. But the Bible shows us that standing for what's right—even when it's hard—leads to real growth and impact.

In Proverbs 21, God says justice brings joy to those who follow Him. Psalm 92 reminds us that when we stay rooted in God, we’ll flourish. And in Philemon, we see a powerful story of grace as Paul fights for the redemption of a runaway slave, Onesimus. In all these passages, one message rings clear: following God’s way might make you different, but it’s always worth it.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Doing Right Feels Right (Eventually): Why do you think doing the right thing sometimes feels so hard in the moment but brings peace later? Think about a time when choosing God’s way made a difference.

2. Stay Planted: Psalm 92 talks about flourishing when we are planted in God's presence. What are some practical ways you can "plant" yourself in God's house—at school, with friends, or even online?

3. Fight for Others: Paul didn’t have to speak up for Onesimus, but he did. Who in your life might need someone to stand up for them, even if it costs you something?

BOTTOM LINE

Being different because you follow Jesus might feel like rebellion in this world—but it’s the right kind of rebellion. Choosing what’s right, staying rooted in God, and standing up for others brings life, joy, and real growth.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me that living for You is worth it. Help me to choose justice, stay rooted in You, and speak up for others, even when it’s hard. Make me bold in doing what’s right and faithful in loving people like You do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
