Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich. — Proverbs 21:17

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. — Hebrews 1:3

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. — Hebrews 2:1

Let’s be honest—most of us love a good time. Whether it’s video games, shopping sprees, binge-watching our favorite shows, or just chasing the next fun thing, we’re wired to enjoy life. But Proverbs 21:17 throws a curveball: chasing pleasure too hard can actually leave us empty. Then, in Hebrews 1, we’re reminded of who Jesus really is—the powerful, glorious Son of God.

And Hebrews 2 warns us not to drift away from the truth we've heard. That "drifting" doesn’t usually happen in big leaps; it happens when we get so distracted by things that don’t really matter that we lose sight of the One who does.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. What are you chasing? Are you putting your energy into things that will last or just chasing short-term fun? It’s not that fun is bad—but if it becomes your main goal, it can lead to spiritual poverty.

2. Who really holds your world together? Jesus "upholds the universe" (Hebrews 1:3). That means your life, your future, your purpose—it’s all in His hands. Are you living like that’s true?

3. Pay attention: Hebrews 2:1 is a wake-up call. If you don’t stay focused on Jesus, you’ll slowly drift. What distractions might be pulling your attention away from Him right now?

BOTTOM LINE

Fun fades, but Jesus remains. Keep your eyes on Him, and you'll find more joy and purpose than any temporary pleasure could offer.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me good things to enjoy, but help me not to live for them. Remind me every day that Jesus is better, stronger, and worth more than anything else. Help me stay focused on Him and not drift away. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
