“The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender. Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity, and the rod of his fury will fail.” — Proverbs 22:7–8

“But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled...” — 1 Peter 3:14

“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

Money. Power. Status. These things seem to rule the world. Whether it’s the pressure to look a certain way, wear the latest styles, or have the newest phone, it’s easy to feel like we’re stuck in a cycle of comparison and control. Proverbs 22 warns us how debt can make us feel trapped, and how living unjustly comes back around. Then in 1 Peter 3–5, we’re reminded that standing for what’s right might cost us something—but we’re never alone in it. God cares. And that changes everything.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Who (or what) is in control? Are you letting money, popularity, or fear control your decisions? Proverbs reminds us that being in debt—financially or emotionally—can make us feel like slaves to those things. What are you borrowing from the world that might be holding you back?

2. Do the right thing, even when it’s hard: 1 Peter 3 talks about suffering for righteousness. That’s not fun, but it’s real. Maybe you’ve stood up for someone or refused to go along with something wrong—and it cost you. But Peter says you're blessed for it. God sees your courage.

3. Worry is heavy—God’s got it: Life gets stressful, and anxiety creeps in. But 1 Peter 5:7 says we can hand those burdens over to God, not because He has to take them, but because He wants to. He cares for you personally.

BOTTOM LINE

What controls you reveals what you trust. Let go of fear, pressure, and control, and give it all to the God who cares deeply for you.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that I don’t have to be ruled by fear, money, or pressure. Help me to stand strong for what’s right, even when it’s tough, and to trust You with every part of my life. I know You care about me. Help me to cast all my worries on You and walk in Your peace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
