“Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him. Whoever oppresses the poor to increase his own wealth, or gives to the rich, will only come to poverty.” — Proverbs 22:15-16 (ESV)
“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” — 1 John 5:4 (ESV)

Sometimes, life feels like a series of tough choices. Whether it’s making the right decision in a friendship, sticking to your values when everyone else is compromising, or facing challenges that seem bigger than you—every day brings its own set of tests. But the Bible gives us wisdom for these times, showing us how to choose well, walk in faith, and overcome.
In Proverbs 22:15, we see that folly (bad choices) is a natural part of growing up. It’s not about if we make mistakes—it’s how we respond. Discipline helps shape us into wise people. And when we choose to live wisely, it not only benefits us, but also helps those around us. In 1 John 5:4, we’re reminded that our faith is what helps us overcome the world and its struggles. Through God, we have the power to rise above the challenges we face, even when it feels impossible.
But it’s easy to forget that we have access to that strength. We sometimes forget that wisdom is not just about being smart—it’s about trusting God’s guidance and allowing Him to direct our paths. The world might say, “Do what feels good,” but God invites us to live according to His wisdom and grace, which leads to lasting success.

THINK ABOUT IT
1. Wisdom vs. Folly: What areas of your life do you struggle with foolish decisions? What is one thing you can do today to make a wiser choice?
2. Faith’s Power: When you face difficulties, how often do you lean on your faith? How can trusting in God’s victory change your perspective on challenges?
3. Discipline and Growth: What role does discipline play in your life? How can discipline help you grow into a person who reflects God’s wisdom?

BOTTOM LINE
God gives us the strength to overcome the world’s pressures, but it starts with wisdom and faith. Don’t let folly take root—choose wisdom, and trust God’s guidance.
