AUGUST 4 - Smart Steps, Not Shortcuts

3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 21:5–6; 1 Timothy 1–2

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty. The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a snare of death.” — Proverbs 21:5–6

“The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” — 1 Timothy 1:5

“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” — 1 Timothy 2:5

Let’s be honest—shortcuts can be tempting. Whether it’s cheating on homework, exaggerating on social media, or rushing into something without thinking, it’s easy to want quick results. But Proverbs 21:5–6 warns that chasing fast success through dishonesty or laziness can actually mess us up.

In contrast, 1 Timothy 1–2 calls us to live with a clear heart, real love, and sincere faith. That means slowing down and walking with purpose, not racing ahead without God. And the best part? We don’t have to do it alone. 1 Timothy 2:5 reminds us that Jesus is our bridge to God—He’s not only cheering us on, He’s walking with us step by step.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Patience Pays Off: Are there areas in your life where you’re tempted to take shortcuts? What might it look like to choose diligence and honesty instead?

2. Real Love Requires Real Faith: Paul says love comes from a pure heart, good conscience, and sincere faith. Are you letting God shape those things in your life?

3. Who Are You Following? Jesus is your mediator, your go-between, your guide. Are you letting Him lead your decisions—or are you trying to run the show?

BOTTOM LINE

Lasting success and real peace come from slow, steady steps with God—not quick fixes. Walk in love, hold onto your faith, and trust that God’s path is worth the wait.
