“When a scoffer is punished, the simple becomes wise; when a wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.” — Proverbs 21:11

“The Lord knows those who are his, and, ‘Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.’” — 2 Timothy 2:19

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

Have you ever watched someone make a big mistake and thought, “I definitely don’t want to do that”? Life is full of chances to learn—from others’ failures and from our own experiences. Proverbs 21:11 shows that a wise person takes instruction seriously and grows because of it.

And when Paul wrote to Timothy, he reminded him (and us) that God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). As young people navigating challenges at school, with friends, and online, these truths can help us grow in wisdom and courage, so we can live faithfully and influence others for good.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Be Teachable: Are you open to correction? Wise people learn from instruction—even from the mistakes of others. Don't let pride keep you from growing.

2. You’ve Got Power: Fear may whisper that you're not enough, but God says otherwise. He’s given you the Holy Spirit to live with strength, love, and self-control. What’s one area you can step out in bold faith this week?

3. Pass It On: Paul mentored Timothy, and Timothy was expected to teach others (see 2 Timothy 2:2). Who can you encourage or guide in your own life—maybe a younger sibling, friend, or teammate?

BOTTOM LINE

God calls you to grow in wisdom, walk in courage, and help others do the same. You don’t have to be perfect—you just have to be willing.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me a spirit of power, love, and self-control. Help me to be teachable, courageous, and faithful in following You. Show me how to learn from life, live boldly for You, and share what I’ve learned with others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
