“And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.” — Luke 2:21

“And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.” — Luke 2:52

Ever feel like life is just one big “waiting to grow up” moment? Whether it’s waiting to drive, finish school, or finally figure out who you are, the in-between years can feel confusing and frustrating. In Luke 2, we catch a glimpse of Jesus as a child and teenager. Even though He was the Son of God, He still went through the slow, steady process of growing up—learning, obeying His parents, and waiting for the right time to begin His mission.

In Matthew 2, we see how the wise men worshiped Jesus even as a small child, showing that God had big plans for Him from the start. Your life might feel ordinary, but like Jesus, God is growing something amazing in you too.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. God Works in the Ordinary: Jesus’ early life included diaper changes, chores, and following His parents. What parts of your everyday life might God be using to shape your future?

2. Obedience Builds Character: Luke 2:51 says Jesus was obedient to His parents. How can respecting authority and making wise choices now prepare you for what’s ahead?

3. Jesus Understands You: He didn’t skip the teen years—He lived them. How does it help to know that Jesus understands what it feels like to grow up?

BOTTOM LINE

Even in the slow, ordinary moments of life, God is doing something extraordinary in you—just like He did with Jesus.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us that even Jesus had to grow up step by step. Help me be patient in the process and trust that You’re shaping me into who You created me to be. Give me wisdom, courage, and obedience in the everyday. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
