“The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short. The hope of the righteous brings joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.” — Proverbs 10:27–28 (ESV)

“The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.” — Acts 17:30 (ESV)

Have you ever put your hope in something that didn’t last? Maybe it was a friendship that faded, a team you thought would win but lost, or even a plan that didn’t work out. That’s kind of like what Proverbs 10:27–28 says: hope rooted in the wrong place always disappoints. But when your hope is in God, it brings real joy and life. In Acts 17:30, Paul reminds us that God calls everyone to turn back to Him—not to waste their lives on empty pursuits, but to discover the kind of hope that lasts forever.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Where’s Your Hope? Are you hoping in stuff, people, or status—or in God, who never fails?

2. God’s Call Is Personal: Acts 17:30 says God calls all people to repent. What does it mean for you to respond personally to that call?

3. Joy that Lasts: Proverbs says the righteous find joy in their hope. What are some ways you can practice putting your hope in God today?

BOTTOM LINE

Real hope isn’t found in temporary things—it’s found in trusting God and living His way.
