“The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.” — Proverbs 10:11–12 (ESV)

“Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word. Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ.” — Acts 8:4–5 (ESV)

Have you ever noticed how powerful words can be? A single comment from a friend can make your day—or completely ruin it. Proverbs reminds us that our words can either bring life or stir up conflict. In Acts 8, even though believers were scattered by persecution, they didn’t waste their breath complaining—they used their words to spread hope in Jesus. Philip’s preaching brought joy to a whole city! What we say matters, and when our words flow from God’s love, they can bring healing, courage, and light to people who desperately need it.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Life or Death Words: Do your words lift others up like “a fountain of life,” or do they tear people down? Think about the impact your conversations have.

2. Love Over Hate: Hatred stirs up drama, but love smooths things over. How can you choose to respond with love, especially when someone gets on your nerves?

3. Use Your Voice for Christ: The scattered believers in Acts didn’t stay silent—they spoke about Jesus. How can you use your voice in your school, online, or in your friendships to point people toward Him?

BOTTOM LINE

Your words carry power—so choose to speak life, show love, and share Jesus wherever you go.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of words and the power they hold. Help me to speak life and not negativity. Teach me to respond with love instead of anger, and give me courage to use my voice to share Jesus with others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
