“Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you.” — Proverbs 4:6

“The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.” — Matthew 12:35

Have you ever been warned about something, ignored the advice, and then totally regretted it later? Maybe it was about a friend who turned out to be fake, or staying up too late before an exam. In Proverbs 4, Solomon is literally begging us to listen, to chase after wisdom like it’s gold. Why? Because wisdom protects us—it shapes how we think, choose, speak, and live. And in Matthew 12, Jesus reminds us that what’s stored in our hearts will eventually show up in our words and actions. If we’re filling up on truth and wisdom, good stuff will overflow. But if we let junk fill our minds, don’t be surprised when it spills out.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Guardrails, Not Restrictions: What if God’s wisdom isn’t about limiting your fun but protecting your future? Think of wisdom like guardrails that keep you from crashing off a cliff—not a fence keeping you from living life.

2. Heart Inventory: What kind of "treasure" are you storing in your heart? Jesus says that what you put in will come out. Are you filling your mind with God's truth—or just whatever’s trending?

3. Don’t Ghost Wisdom: In Proverbs, wisdom is personified like a trusted friend. Are you ignoring her? Or are you learning to recognize her voice in God’s Word, in godly advice, and in the tug of the Holy Spirit?

BOTTOM LINE

Real wisdom guards your heart and shapes your life—don’t just hear it, hold on to it.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help me to not just hear Your wisdom but to live by it. Teach me to value what You say above what the world says. Fill my heart with truth so that my words and actions overflow with Your goodness. Keep me from foolish choices, and guide me in Your way every day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
