“All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads; ‘He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him; let him rescue him, for he delights in him!’” — Psalm 22:7–8

“They divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” — Psalm 22:18

“And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots.” — Matthew 27:35

Have you ever felt like people were against you—laughing at you, mocking you, or making you feel like you didn’t belong? That’s exactly what Psalm 22 describes. And here’s the mind-blowing part: written hundreds of years before Jesus came to earth, this Psalm paints the exact picture of what happened when Jesus was crucified in Matthew 27. The soldiers mocked Him. They cast lots for His clothes. The crowd taunted Him to come down from the cross. Yet, in the middle of all that pain, Jesus chose to stay and finish His mission—for you. He endured shame and suffering so you could have life and hope.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Prophecy Fulfilled: Psalm 22 was written long before the cross, but it lines up perfectly with Jesus’ crucifixion. What does this show you about God’s Word and His plan for salvation?

2. Enduring Mockery: Jesus was mocked and rejected, yet He didn’t fight back. How can His example help you handle times when people laugh at your faith or treat you unfairly?

3. He Did It for You: Every detail—down to soldiers gambling for His clothes—was part of the plan to save you. How does remembering that Jesus chose the cross change the way you see His love for you today?

BOTTOM LINE

Jesus’ suffering wasn’t random—it was part of God’s plan, foretold in Scripture, and fulfilled to show how deeply He loves you.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me that Your Word is true and that every promise You made is fulfilled in Jesus. Help me to remember that even when life feels hard or people misunderstand me, I can trust in Your plan and love. Give me courage to stand strong in my faith like Jesus did on the cross. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
