Ever try to do a hundred things at once and realize none of them are really getting your best effort? Between school, sports, friends, and everything else, it’s easy to let God get whatever’s left over. But these verses remind us of something important: God deserves more than just the leftovers.

In Proverbs 3:9–10, we’re challenged to give God our “firstfruits”—the best and first parts of what we have. Psalm 5 shows us the heart of someone who chooses to approach God with awe and love first thing in the day. And in Matthew 4, even when Jesus is tempted in the wilderness, He chooses to worship and serve only God. These passages together remind us that when we give God our best—our time, our focus, our love—He fills our lives with what we truly need.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. What Are Your “Firstfruits”? Think about how you start your day. Is God part of your morning, or do you rush through it without even checking in with Him?

2. Worship Isn’t Just Music: Jesus reminds us in Matthew 4:10 that worship is about who we serve. Are you putting other things—like popularity, success, or comfort—above God?

3. God Fills What You Give Him: Proverbs 3:10 says that when we honor God first, He fills us up. That doesn’t always mean more stuff—but it does mean more peace, more purpose, and more of His presence.
