JANUARY 9 - More Than Gold

3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 3:13–20; Matthew 6

“Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold.” — Proverbs 3:13–14

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33

What do you think would make your life better right now? A new phone? More friends? Better grades? It’s easy to get caught up in chasing after things that seem important. Jesus gets it—Matthew 6 is full of reminders not to stress about stuff like clothes, food, or even tomorrow. But instead of worrying, He tells us to focus on God first.

Similarly, Proverbs 3 tells us that wisdom—seeing life from God’s perspective—is more valuable than anything money can buy. When we put God’s truth and His way of living first, everything else falls into place.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. What Are You Seeking? Jesus tells us to “seek first the kingdom of God.” What are you spending the most time thinking about or chasing after right now?

2. Wisdom Over Wealth: Proverbs compares wisdom to treasure. Do you treat God’s wisdom—His Word, His truth, His guidance—as something truly valuable in your daily life?

3. Trust God's Order: Both passages remind us that when we prioritize God, we can trust Him to handle the rest. What’s one area of your life you need to let God take the lead in?

BOTTOM LINE

Chasing after stuff won’t fill you up, but seeking God and His wisdom will lead you to a life that’s full, steady, and truly blessed.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that Your wisdom is worth more than anything else I could want. Help me to seek You first—above all the distractions, stress, and things that try to grab my attention. Teach me to trust that when I put You first, everything else will fall into place. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
