“The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew.” —Proverbs 3:19–20

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth... but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” —Matthew 6:19–21

We all want something valuable. Maybe it’s a new phone, a pair of fresh sneakers, or even attention and approval from friends or followers online. And while those things might feel rewarding for a moment, Jesus points us to something deeper and longer-lasting. In Matthew 6, He talks about treasure—but not the kind you can hold in your hand or post on your feed. He’s talking about eternal treasure. The kind you build when you choose God’s wisdom over popularity, truth over trends, and His way over your own.

Proverbs 3 reminds us that God built everything—literally everything—by His wisdom. That means when we seek His wisdom, we’re not just getting smart advice; we’re tapping into the same power that shaped the universe. Earthly treasures fade, but heavenly wisdom never expires. So when life feels uncertain or when we feel pressure to chase after what the world values, we can remember that real security and purpose are found in living by God’s truth.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Treasure Test: What do you think about the most? What you treasure will shape your heart and choices—are those things leading you closer to Jesus?

2. Wisdom Over Wanting: Are you asking God for wisdom in the choices you're making about school, friends, dating, or your future? His wisdom is stronger than hype.

3. Heart Check: What would it look like for you to "lay up treasure in heaven" this week? Could it mean being honest, encouraging someone, forgiving, or spending time with God?

BOTTOM LINE

Lasting treasure isn’t found in stuff—it’s found in living wisely and seeking God above everything else.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me that true treasure comes from knowing You and living by Your wisdom. Help me not to get distracted by temporary things, but to set my heart on what matters most. Teach me to value what You value and give me the strength to choose Your way, even when it’s hard. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
