3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 20:1–2; Psalm 81; Luke 14

“Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise. The terror of a king is like the growling of a lion; whoever provokes him to anger forfeits his life.” — Proverbs 20:1–2

“Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!” — Psalm 81:13

“For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.” — Luke 14:24

Imagine being invited to the most epic party of the year—amazing food, the coolest people, and music that hits just right. But instead of going, you say you're too busy. Sounds crazy, right? That’s the kind of story Jesus tells in Luke 14—a parable about people missing out on God’s feast because they chose other things over Him. Pair that with Psalm 81, where God is literally longing for His people to just listen and follow Him.

Then you’ve got Proverbs 20, reminding us how easy it is to get distracted or even wrecked by things like alcohol or reckless choices. All three passages speak to a simple but deep truth: God offers us His best, but we’ve got to be wise enough to say “yes.”

THINK ABOUT IT

1. God Wants You In: Jesus paints a picture of God as a host, throwing open the doors of His Kingdom. Are you showing up to the party—or are other things keeping you away?

2. Listening Is Loving: Psalm 81 shows how much God longs for us to simply hear His voice and trust Him. How often do you take time to really listen to what God might be saying?

3. Choices Have Consequences: Proverbs warns us about the dangers of letting anything—substances, pride, peer pressure—take the lead in our lives. What influences are shaping your decisions right now?

BOTTOM LINE

God is offering you something amazing—His presence, His wisdom, and a place at His table. Don’t miss it because you’re chasing something less. Stay focused, stay wise, and say yes to Him.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting me into something greater than anything this world can offer. Help me to listen to Your voice, to walk in wisdom, and to say “yes” when You call. Keep my heart steady when distractions come, and remind me of the joy that comes from following You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
