“The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the Lord has made them both. Love not sleep, lest you come to poverty; open your eyes, and you will have plenty of bread.” —Proverbs 20:12–13

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” —Psalm 118:24

“But he looked directly at them and said, ‘What then is this that is written: “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone”?’” —Luke 20:17

Have you ever slept through your alarm and woke up feeling totally behind? It’s the worst. You scramble to catch up, and all day feels off. Proverbs warns us about more than just physical sleep—it’s about not sleepwalking through life spiritually. God gave us eyes and ears for a reason (see Proverbs 20:12). We’re meant to be alert—to see what He’s doing and listen for His direction. And when we do, we begin to notice that every single day is a gift (Psalm 118:24).

In Luke 20, Jesus talks about being rejected, even though He was the cornerstone—the most important part of God's plan. It’s a wake-up call: don’t miss what God is building in and around you. Open your eyes. He’s already moving.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Spiritual Alarm Clock: Are you “awake” to what God is doing in your life? Or are you coasting through your days without noticing His hand in the little things?

2. Today Matters: Psalm 118 says this day was made by God. How can you live with more purpose and joy today, even if it’s not a perfect day?

3. Cornerstone Check: Jesus was rejected, but He’s the foundation of everything. Is He at the center of your life, or have you unintentionally left Him out of your plans?

BOTTOM LINE

God created you to see, hear, and live fully alert to His presence. Don’t miss what He’s building—He has something powerful planned for today.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating me with eyes to see and ears to hear. Help me not to sleepwalk through life, but to be fully awake to what You’re doing. Show me how to live with purpose and joy each day. Remind me that Jesus is my cornerstone, and help me build my life on Him. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
