“The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all his innermost parts. Steadfast love and faithfulness preserve the king, and by steadfast love his throne is upheld.” — Proverbs 20:27-28

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” — Colossians 2:6-7

Your heart is like a lamp. No, really. Proverbs talks about how the spirit of a person is like a lamp, shining light into the deepest parts of who you are. That light, your soul, is something the Lord uses to lead you. But it doesn’t always feel like a glowing beacon, does it? Sometimes, it feels like the light is flickering or going out. Maybe you feel like you’re in a dark spot in life, trying to figure out your purpose or feeling uncertain about the future. This is where Colossians 2 offers something powerful: it encourages you to be “rooted and built up in Him” — in Jesus. When you stay connected to Jesus, your inner light stays strong, no matter how tough things get.

Think about how much you trust your phone to charge when it's plugged in. If you stop plugging it in, the battery dies, right? The same is true for your spiritual life. Jesus is the source of your strength, your purpose, your everything. Without Him, you’ll lose your way. But with Him, you’ll be anchored in faith, and that light will shine brighter.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. The Lamp Inside You: How can your spirit be a light for others? Do you let your faith show in how you treat people and make decisions?

2. Rooted in Jesus: What are some ways you can make sure you're staying connected to Jesus daily? Are there habits, like prayer or reading your Bible, that can help you grow?

3. Steadfast Love: How can you show God's love and faithfulness to others? What difference does it make in your life when you remember how much God loves you?
