3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 17:23–24; Exodus 19–20

“The wicked accepts a bribe in secret to pervert the ways of justice. The discerning sets his face toward wisdom, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.” — Proverbs 17:23–24

“Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples… And God spoke all these words, saying, ‘I am the Lord your God… You shall have no other gods before me.’” — Exodus 19:5; 20:1–3

Have you ever zoned out while trying to do something important—like studying or praying—because your mind was all over the place? In Proverbs 17:24, it says that wisdom comes from focusing, but a fool’s eyes are everywhere. And in Exodus 20, God gives His people the Ten Commandments, not to weigh them down, but to give them a solid path to walk on—a way to stay focused on Him.

God had just rescued the Israelites from slavery, and He didn’t want them wandering aimlessly anymore. Instead, He invited them into a relationship with Him, giving clear boundaries and instructions for living differently from the world. Sadly, people often try to bend the rules for their own gain or chase every distraction possible—just like that warning in Proverbs 17:23 about accepting bribes and perverting justice.

God’s Word is like a compass that helps us see through the noise and live with integrity. Whether it's choosing honesty over cheating, truth over gossip, or God over distractions, wisdom starts with looking straight ahead—keeping your eyes on what matters most.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Keep Your Focus: Are you chasing distractions or setting your heart toward God’s wisdom each day?

2. What Guides You? Do you follow what feels good in the moment, or are you allowing God’s Word to shape your decisions?

3. Obedience Is Worship: When you hear God’s commands, do you see them as rules—or as a way to stay close to the One who calls you His treasured possession?

BOTTOM LINE

God gives us clear direction, not to limit us, but to lead us into freedom and purpose. Wisdom starts when we fix our eyes on Him.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me Your Word to guide my life. Help me to focus on wisdom instead of chasing distractions. Teach me to love Your commands and live in a way that honors You. I want to walk in Your truth and keep You at the center of everything I do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
