JUNE 16 - Don't Go Solo

3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 18:1–2; Psalm 70; Exodus 23

“Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment. A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.” — Proverbs 18:1–2

“Make haste, O God, to deliver me! O Lord, make haste to help me!... Let those who love your salvation say evermore, ‘God is great!’” — Psalm 70:1, 4

“You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness.” — Exodus 23:1

Have you ever felt like shutting everyone out—pulling away from your family, friends, or even God—just to do your own thing? It might feel like a way to protect yourself, but Proverbs 18:1 warns that isolating ourselves leads us away from wisdom. When we stop listening to others and only care about saying what we think, we’re more likely to make poor choices.

Psalm 70 is a cry for help—a reminder that we need God, and we need His people. And Exodus 23 reminds us how important it is to act with integrity, especially in how we speak and treat others. God calls us to live in community with truth and justice, not selfishness or isolation.

We weren’t made to go solo. Whether it’s struggling through something hard, fighting off temptation, or just trying to figure out life, God designed us to need Him and need each other. Wise friends, parents, mentors, and Scripture help guide us. When we cut off those voices, we’re missing out on help we were never meant to live without.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Don’t Isolate—Connect: Are there times when you pull away from others just to do things your own way? How could that be keeping you from wise input or God’s help?

2. Cry Out Like David: Do you ask God for help when you’re in trouble or confused, like David did in Psalm 70? What would change if you made that your first instinct?

3. Live with Integrity: Are you being honest and fair in your relationships, especially when it’s easier to go along with gossip or unfair treatment like Exodus 23 warns against?

BOTTOM LINE

Wisdom grows in community, not isolation. God designed you to walk with Him and with others in truth and love.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help me not to shut people out or think I have to figure life out alone. Give me wisdom to stay connected to the right voices, and courage to cry out to You when I’m overwhelmed. Help me live honestly and with integrity, reflecting Your heart in every decision. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
