“When the wicked comes, contempt also comes, and with dishonor comes disgrace. The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook. It is not good to be partial to the wicked or to deprive the righteous of justice.” — Proverbs 18:3–5

“Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. The glory of the Lord dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud.” — Exodus 24:15–16

Have you ever noticed how powerful words can be? Proverbs 18:3–5 talks about how words can either lift us up or drag us down, especially when used with dishonor or injustice. The verses remind us that true wisdom, like a refreshing fountain, brings life and understanding, while wickedness brings only destruction. In this life, you’ll face a choice every day: Will you choose to speak life and truth, or will you let selfishness and dishonor take the lead?

In Exodus 24, Moses experiences the awe-inspiring presence of God on Mount Sinai. For six days, he waits in the presence of God's glory, and then on the seventh day, God calls to him. It's a reminder of the power and majesty of God—He is the source of true wisdom and honor. And just like Moses, we are invited into His presence.

When we align ourselves with God, our words and actions become a reflection of His wisdom and glory, just as Moses’ encounter with God on the mountain shaped his entire leadership. Choosing to speak with integrity and wisdom, to not indulge in partiality, or to bring dishonor to others, reflects God’s glory in us. We are not meant to live by our own wisdom or selfish desires, but by His truth and righteousness.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. The Power of Words: How do the words you speak reflect who you are? Are they a source of life and wisdom, or do they bring dishonor and disgrace to others?

2. True Honor: What does it look like for you to honor God with your words and actions? How can you stand firm in speaking truth in a world that often prefers shortcuts?

3. God’s Presence: Just as Moses waited in God’s presence for six days, are you taking time to listen for God’s voice and allow His glory to shape you?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting me into Your presence and giving me the gift of Your wisdom. Help me to choose my words carefully, that they might bring life and honor, not dishonor or destruction. May I reflect Your glory in everything I say and do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
