To show partiality is not good, but for a piece of bread a man will do wrong. A stingy man hastens after wealth and does not know that poverty will come upon him. — Proverbs 28:21–22

This was the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Judah according to their clans. — Joshua 15:20

The people of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance. — Joshua 16:4

Have you ever been tempted to cut corners—maybe sneak a peek at someone else’s test, exaggerate a story to look good, or take a shortcut that no one will notice? In Proverbs 28:21–22, we’re warned that chasing quick rewards or being unfair just to gain something small can lead to bigger problems.

Meanwhile, Joshua 15–16 shows how God carefully and fairly distributed land to His people. Each tribe received their share—not because they rushed ahead or cheated, but because they trusted God’s process. There’s something powerful about waiting for what’s yours and not trying to grab what isn’t.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. What’s the rush? Are you tempted to speed ahead or grab more than you need? Proverbs reminds us that shortcuts often lead to setbacks. Why do you think it’s hard to wait on God’s timing?

2. Inheritance isn't just land: In Joshua, the land wasn’t random—it was God’s promise coming true. What has God promised you? How can you stay focused on His plan rather than what others seem to be getting?

3. Check your heart: Greed and impatience can sneak in subtly. Is there a situation where you're tempted to take more than your share or bend the truth to get ahead?

BOTTOM LINE

God’s way may take longer, but it leads to lasting peace. Trust the process and resist the urge to grab what isn’t yours. His promises are worth the wait.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for being fair and faithful. Help me to trust Your timing and stay away from shortcuts that lead to trouble. Teach me to be content, honest, and patient as I wait for what You’ve promised. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
