“Trusting in a treacherous man in time of trouble is like a bad tooth or a foot that slips. Whoever sings songs to a heavy heart is like one who takes off a garment on a cold day.” — Proverbs 25:19–20

“Praise the Lord, all nations! Extol him, all peoples! For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!” — Psalm 117:1–2

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” — John 10:27–28

Have you ever leaned on someone in a hard time, only to realize they weren’t really there for you? Maybe a friend said they’d have your back but disappeared when things got tough. That’s exactly what Proverbs 25 is talking about—trusting the wrong person can leave you hurting, like stepping on a twisted ankle or biting down on a sore tooth.

But there’s a big contrast in John 10, where Jesus says that His followers—His sheep—can hear His voice and trust Him completely. His grip on your life is so strong, nothing can break it. And when we remember His love and faithfulness like Psalm 117 describes, we’re reminded that He’s worthy of our full trust.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Who Are You Trusting? Not everyone who says they’re your friend will be reliable when life gets messy. Are you putting your trust in people who build you up—or break you down?

2. Listen for the Shepherd’s Voice: Jesus says His sheep know His voice. Are you spending time in His Word, learning to recognize when He’s speaking to your heart?

3. God’s Love Is Forever: Psalm 117 says God’s love and faithfulness never end. What difference would it make in your day if you really believed that God is always steady—even when everything else shifts?

BOTTOM LINE

People will fail you sometimes—but Jesus never will. He knows you, He speaks to you, and He will never let you go.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God I can count on, even when people let me down. Help me to hear Your voice more clearly and trust You more deeply. Teach me how to be a trustworthy friend to others too. Your love and faithfulness are the anchor I need every day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
