“Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.” — Proverbs 25:25–26

“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” — John 13:14

Have you ever been outside on a hot day, totally parched, and then someone hands you an ice-cold drink? Instant relief, right? That’s what Proverbs 25:25 is talking about—how powerful and refreshing good news can be. But then, verse 26 flips it: when someone who should stand strong gives in to what's wrong, it’s like their influence becomes dirty and unhelpful, like muddy water.

In John 13, Jesus sets an example that flips the script too—not with weakness, but with humility. He does something unexpected: He washes His disciples’ feet. It wasn’t just a kind gesture—it was a challenge to love and serve others, no matter our position. What does all this mean for us as young people trying to live out our faith? It means we’re called to be the refreshing kind of people, not the muddy kind.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Be the Good News: Are your words and actions like cold water to the people around you? Think about the way you talk to your friends or the attitude you bring to school or your team. Is it refreshing and kind, or does it drain people?

2. Stand Strong: It’s easy to go along with the crowd, especially when standing out could make you feel alone or awkward. But Proverbs says when we don’t stand up for what’s right, we’re like polluted water—people can’t trust what comes from us.

3. Lead by Serving: Jesus was the most powerful person in the room, yet He chose to kneel down and wash feet. That’s next-level humility. What would it look like for you to serve others at home, at school, or online?

BOTTOM LINE

You were made to be a refreshing presence in a dry and broken world. When you live with courage, kindness, and humility like Jesus, you don’t just blend in—you bring life.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Thank You for showing me what real love looks like through Jesus. Help me be like cold water to thirsty people—encouraging, bold, and kind. Give me the strength to stand for what’s right, even when it’s hard, and the humility to serve others like Jesus did. I want to live in a way that brings You glory and shows others who You are. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
