“Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” — Proverbs 26:12

“Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.” — Revelation 1:3

“I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot!” — Revelation 3:15

Have you ever had someone call you a “know-it-all”? Maybe you didn’t mean to come across that way—you were just confident. But confidence without humility can get us in trouble fast. Proverbs 26:12 warns us that thinking we’ve got all the answers is actually more dangerous than being foolish. That’s wild, right?

When we read Revelation 1–3, we see Jesus speaking to churches full of people who thought they were doing just fine—but they were missing the point. Some were lukewarm, spiritually sleepy, or living off their reputation instead of truly following Jesus. God loves us too much to let us stay stuck in pride or complacency. He calls us to listen, wake up, and really follow Him.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Check Your Confidence: Is your confidence based on your own knowledge, or on God’s truth? It’s okay to be smart or sure of yourself—but God calls us to stay humble, always learning from Him.

2. Lukewarm or On Fire? Jesus tells the church in Laodicea that being “lukewarm” isn’t good enough. Are you just going through the motions of faith, or are you really pursuing Jesus with your heart?

3. Listen Up: Each letter to the churches in Revelation ends with, “He who has an ear, let him hear.” Are you really listening when God speaks through His Word, or do you tune out what’s uncomfortable?

BOTTOM LINE

Being “wise in your own eyes” might feel good in the moment, but God calls us to a deeper wisdom—one that starts with humility and a heart that listens. Don’t settle for a lukewarm faith. Stay teachable, stay close to Jesus, and keep your fire burning.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving me enough to tell me the truth. Help me not to be prideful or think I’ve got it all figured out. Teach me to stay humble, to listen to Your Word, and to follow You fully. I don’t want to be lukewarm—I want to be on fire for You. Show me where I need to grow and give me the courage to change. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
