“Do not put yourself forward in the king’s presence or stand in the place of the great, for it is better to be told, ‘Come up here,’ than to be put lower in the presence of a noble.” — Proverbs 25:6–7
“Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob.” — Psalm 114:7
“But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” — John 4:14

Have you ever tried really hard to impress someone—maybe by showing off your talents or trying to fit in with the “cool” crowd—only to feel like it backfired? In Proverbs 25, we’re reminded that humility is more powerful than self-promotion. In Psalm 114, we see a picture of how awesome and powerful God is—so powerful even the earth shakes in His presence! And in John 4, Jesus meets a woman at a well who thought she was forgotten and unworthy. Instead of judging her, He offers her living water—hope, purpose, and eternal life.
These three passages may seem different at first, but they’re all connected by a bigger idea: living a life that’s not centered on ourselves, but on God. When we humble ourselves, recognize His power, and receive what only He can give, our lives begin to overflow with something so much better than popularity, status, or approval—we overflow with His presence.

THINK ABOUT IT
1. True Confidence Comes from God: Are you trying to prove your worth to others, or are you trusting that God has already given you value? Proverbs reminds us that we don’t need to fight for attention. God sees us, and His invitation to “come up here” is far more meaningful.
2. Be Amazed Again: Psalm 114 reminds us how incredible God is. When was the last time you were truly in awe of Him? If the earth trembles at His presence, how much more should our hearts be moved by who He is?
3. Jesus Fills What the World Can’t: In John 4, Jesus tells the woman He can give her living water. What are you trying to fill your heart with? Friends, success, likes, or achievements? Only Jesus satisfies completely.

BOTTOM LINE
You don’t have to push your way to the top or chase what doesn’t last. Let Jesus fill you with living water, walk humbly, and live higher by staying close to Him.
