“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver. Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold is a wise reprover to a listening ear.” — Proverbs 25:11–12

“Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!” — Psalm 115:1

“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.’” — John 6:35

Words can do a lot. They can lift someone up or tear someone down in seconds. A compliment at the right moment can make someone’s day, and a harsh word can stick longer than we ever intended. Proverbs 25:11–12 reminds us that the right words at the right time are like treasure. Not only that, but being willing to listen to truth—especially when it's hard—shows wisdom. In Psalm 115, we’re reminded that our lives should point to God’s glory, not our own.

Then John 6 takes it deeper: Jesus doesn’t just speak life—He is life. He satisfies our deepest needs in ways no friend, trend, or social media “like” ever could.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Words That Matter: Are the things you say helping others, or hurting them? What does it look like to speak “apples of gold” in your daily life?

2. The Right Kind of Glory: When you succeed or get recognition, do you give God credit? How can you point people to His love and faithfulness instead of seeking all the spotlight?

3. Soul Satisfaction: Jesus said He’s the “bread of life.” That means He’s what truly satisfies. Are you filling up on Him through prayer, scripture, and community—or trying to fill the void with temporary things?

BOTTOM LINE

The words you speak and the words you listen to shape who you become. Choose to use your voice for encouragement, live for God’s glory, and find your satisfaction in Jesus—He’s the only one who never runs dry.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for the power of words and for being the ultimate Word who gives life. Help me speak truth and kindness, listen with wisdom, and live in a way that points back to You. Satisfy my heart in ways nothing else can. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
