“Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.” — Proverbs 23:22–23

“But nothing that a person devotes to the Lord, whether man or beast, or of his inherited field, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy to the Lord.” — Leviticus 27:28

Have you ever saved up for something big—maybe a concert, a new game, or your first pair of shoes you really wanted? You thought about it, counted the cost, and made it yours. That’s the kind of commitment today’s passages are talking about. Proverbs 23:23 tells us to "buy" truth, wisdom, and understanding—things that don’t go on sale and can’t be returned.

Meanwhile, Leviticus 27 talks about what it means to dedicate something completely to God. Once it’s given, it’s His—no refunds, no take-backs. When we choose to follow Jesus, we’re making a lifelong commitment to value what God values and to live like we belong to Him—because we do.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. What’s Worth Your Investment? What are you spending your time, energy, and attention on? Are you "buying" truth and wisdom daily by spending time in God’s Word or chasing after temporary things?

2. No Take-Backs: In Leviticus, once something was devoted to God, it became most holy. What would it look like for you to devote parts of your life—like your talents, your time, or your goals—fully to Him?

3. Wisdom Over Hype: Proverbs reminds us that wisdom, understanding, and truth are worth the cost. How can you remind yourself to value God's truth more than popularity, trends, or peer approval?

BOTTOM LINE

God calls us to live like people who have been purchased with something priceless—His love and grace. When we choose to give our lives to Him, it’s not about giving Him part of who we are; it’s about handing over everything in trust and worship, knowing He is worth it all.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for valuing us so much that You gave everything to make us Yours. Help me to see the true worth of Your truth and wisdom and to choose those things over what the world offers. Teach me to devote my life fully to You, knowing You’re faithful and good. Give me courage to live like someone who belongs to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
