“Do not move an ancient landmark or enter the fields of the fatherless, for their Redeemer is strong; he will plead their cause against you.” — Proverbs 23:10–11

“For on this day shall atonement be made for you to cleanse you. You shall be clean before the Lord from all your sins.” — Leviticus 16:30

“You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the Lord.” — Leviticus 18:5

We live in a world that’s constantly shifting the lines—what used to be considered wrong is now “up for debate,” and sometimes it feels like there are no solid answers. But Proverbs 23:10–11 reminds us not to mess with the “landmarks,” or the boundaries God has set. Why? Because they protect people—especially the vulnerable—and God Himself defends those boundaries.

In Leviticus 16, we see how God made a way for people to be forgiven through the Day of Atonement. Then in Leviticus 18, He gives clear guidelines on how to live differently from the world. It’s not about rules for rules’ sake—it’s about living a life that honors the God who gave everything for us.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. God’s Boundaries Are for Our Good: God’s commands aren’t about limiting your fun; they’re about protecting your heart and your future. Where in your life might you be tempted to “move a landmark” and step outside God’s design?

2. Grace Covers Our Gaps: The Day of Atonement in Leviticus was a huge deal—it was God’s way of saying, “I know you’ll mess up, but I’ve made a way back.” Today, Jesus is our perfect atonement. Do you believe God’s forgiveness is enough for your mistakes?

3. Live Set Apart: Leviticus 18 lays out some serious instructions for God’s people. Why? Because He called them to live differently. As a follower of Jesus, what are some areas where your life should look different from the world around you?

BOTTOM LINE

God sets up boundaries not to restrict us, but to protect us—and when we fail, His grace makes a way to bring us back. Live in His love, trust His ways, and remember that you are set apart for something greater.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Thank You for being a God of both boundaries and grace. Help me to see Your commands as a gift, not a burden. When I mess up, remind me that Jesus has already made a way back for me. Teach me to live in a way that honors You, even when it’s hard or unpopular. I want my life to reflect Your love and truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
