In today’s episode, I’m inviting you to meet sage—a wise, protective, and clarifying plant that helps us stand firm in our truth and clear what no longer serves. We’ll learn about how sage supports us in releasing stagnant energy, building strong boundaries, and stepping into our truth with grounded clarity.
What we explore in this episode:
What sage is and its herbal, magical, and energetic qualities
Which tarot cards and archetypes sage resonates with
Practical ways to work with sage in self-care, ritual, and everyday life
💐 Meet the Plant Ally: Sage
Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a Mediterranean plant with soft, silvery leaves and purple flowers that attract pollinators and witches alike. It thrives in hot, dry conditions and grows into a woody perennial bush. Sage is known for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and digestive benefits. It’s also used in folk medicine for stress, sore throats, and wound healing.
Sage is known as a plant of purification, wisdom, and protection. It helps us clear heavy or stagnant energy, release what no longer serves, and reconnect to our inner wisdom. It whispers: “Let’s clean this up and get to the truth.”
🔮 Sage & Tarot
Sage aligns with tarot archetypes of introspection, wisdom, and grounded self-trust:
The Hermit — embodying solitude, deep inner searching, and soul-level clarity. Sage invites us to step back, reflect, and listen to the quiet truths within us.
Queen of Pentacles — representing nurturing earth energy, protection, and wise stewardship of self and community. Sage helps us set compassionate boundaries and care for our physical and energetic homes.
Sage teaches us to honor our healing journeys with patience and to protect what is sacred within and around us.
🌿 Plant Magic & Energetics
Edible & Herbal Uses:
Infused oils for topical healing or ritual anointing.
Herbal teas to support digestion and soothe the throat.
Sage butter or roasted potatoes for earthy, warming meals.
Ritual Use:
Make your own homegrown sage bundles for smoke cleansing (always ethically and mindfully sourced).
Add to protection jars or spellwork for boundaries and clarity.
Use in ritual baths to release energetic heaviness and renew your spirit.
Gardening & Offerings:
Grow sage near doorways or windows to create protective thresholds.
Share cuttings with loved ones as blessings of wisdom and strength.
Leave leaves or flowers as offerings to ancestors or spirits in gratitude.
Energetic Properties:
Clears stagnant or heavy energy from spaces and our own fields.
Strengthens boundaries and invites discernment.
Encourages us to listen deeply, release old patterns, and step forward with intention.
💭 Today's Tarot Pull:
From Therapists Who Tarot Deck, I pulled the Six of Cups (Upright).
The Six of Cups invites us to consider what memories, habits, or patterns we’re holding onto—and which ones we’re ready to release. With sage’s guidance, we’re reminded to honor our past, but not to let it define our future.
Reflective prompts on this card:
What seeds should I be planting now to support my future self?
Where do I need to be more decisive in clearing old energy or relationships?
What (or who) is asking to be released so I can grow more fully into my truth?
