Description

The Gospel of Mark is the earliest and most mysterious narrative of Jesus. Unlike Paul’s letters, it offers an actual story, but one written as a riddle, wrapped in mystery. Though later absorbed into the New Testament, Mark has been largely misunderstood and forgotten.

Matthew and Luke rewrite and reshape Mark, altering its message so much that Mark’s original voice disappears. In this sense, it has gone “unread” for nearly two thousand years.

In this video, Dr. Tabor restores Mark to its original historical context as a post-war apocalyptic work after the destruction of Jerusalem, one that presents a radically different view of God, the Messiah, and Israel than later Christianity. Mark emerges as a three-part drama ending with a dead, abandoned Messiah and an open-ended challenge to the reader: to understand its hidden meaning, if they have eyes to see and ears to hear.
