Description

Guys, we've done a lot of concept albums. From the greats, like The Wall and Deloused in the Comatorium, to some of the less greats, such as Songs about Jane and Christmas in the Stars. But NEVER have we encountered a concept that has been so poorly executed as today's album. "Garth Brooks in... the Life of Chris Gaines" (or Chris Gaines' "Greatest Hits" as it was released) is like a fever dream. It's seemingly a pretty simple story. Garth Brooks creates an alter ego that has black, straight hair and wears skinny pants and sings rock music. It's weird. People reject it. But the more you look into what went into this infamous publicity stunt, the stranger the story gets. Originally Chris Gaines was a character for a movie about a rock musician. This movie didn't pan out, but Brooks still wanted to do something with the idea, so he created a VH1 documentary about Chris Gaines' career, in which he is horribly disfigured and turned into the Garth Brooks look-alike that he became. Then he tried to take this prank to the next level by playing both himself and Chris on an episode of SNL, which approximately no one was fooled by. Confused? So are we. Join us as we try to understand why this album was made and what it even is. Brad, Jon, and Trevor are here for it.
