Description

[DAVE's PICK] Iron Maiden are the undeniable kings of 80s heavy metal and, in 1988, they were at the peak of that meteoric rise. After the gigantic success of 1984's release "Powerslave" and the subsequent "World Slavery Tour" (their biggest tour ever), and the well received, and slightly experimental, 1986 release "Somewhere in Time," it was time for them to focus all of that experience, talent, and growth into their first concept album. With tensions somewhat high and a few members not feeling that their contributions had been heard in recent years, the band went headlong into the most collaborative writing process yet with 1988's "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son." The most notable change in contribution is from lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, who had many of his ideas rejected in the previous album, but was was given ample room to shine in "Seventh Son," which truly showcases his vast operatic range. Although it garnered huge critical success, it was Iron Maiden's last album with that line up until reuniting in 1999, as guitarist Adrian Smith left for creative differences and Dickinson left after two more albums... But they pulled it together to tell one epic tale... about chosen ones... prophecies... and... madness? All of that and a short bible lesson with Brad & Jon A, as Dave sips beers and throws devil horns with Eddie.
