Description

It's the season 2 premiere and beginning of our "Week of Pink Floyd"!!! In this episode, we cover the first half of the mac daddy of concept albums. This one is so conceptual, in fact, it's a full on rock opera. Hailed by most as a masterpiece, and by some as overplayed, "The Wall" is a journey of the soul for Pink, our protagonist. Beginning with the death of his father in the war, and continuing on to Pink's troubled childhood and adulthood simultaneously, the album attempts to describe how one builds the walls that shield them from making emotional connections with others. It's about isolation and the mental decay that comes with shutting everyone out. It's about generational trauma and growing up without a father. It's about feeling betrayed by the rising authoritarianism happening in Britain after the war (considering what they fought for). It's about watching the decline in the mental health of their friend Syd Barrett, as well as a semi-biographical account of Roger Water's life, who's father died in WWII. Really, "The Wall" is about a great many things and has moments throughout that are relatable to anyone. In this half of Pink's journey, join Brad, Jon, Dave, and Scott as we see why the wall was built. And make sure to join us on Friday, as we'll see how it's torn down...
