Take a magic carpet ride to Agrabah in this special video episode.
This is another episode filmed at the Hairston Crossing Library, where we’re doing a live recording in front of the library’s Filmmaker’s Club to teach about podcasting.
****Couldn't upload the video to Spotify for unknown reasons, so it will be up on Youtube by tomorrow! I will update here with a link.****
Today's co-host is Martin Bennett, librarian and indie filmmaker.
The Filmmakers Club offers monthly meetings for new and experienced filmmakers to develop their craft. They often make short films together and engage in interactive learning sessions.
In this episode, Martin and Bridget discuss the original animated 1992 Aladdin and the 2019 live-action remake. There's some surprising literary origins to the story, plus quite a lot to dig into with the music.
Aladdin (1992)
A kind-hearted street urchin and a power-hungry Grand Vizier vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true.
Aladdin (2019)
Aladdin, a kind thief, woos Jasmine, the princess of Agrabah, with the help of Genie. When Jafar, the grand vizier, tries to usurp the king, Jasmine, Aladdin and Genie must stop him from succeeding.

On each episode we’ll look at a movie and its remake, or sometimes a movie and its sequel, to determine if Hollywood rehashed it for a reason or for a cash grab.
