"Udamu karao karāvahu ṭhākur pekhat sādhū saṅg ॥"

This Shabad from Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 405, reflects the harmonious interplay between human effort and divine grace in spiritual practice.

  1. ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰਉ ਕਰਾਵਹੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ (Udamu Karao Karāvahu Ṭhākur):
This phrase signifies the active role of the devotee in making efforts while acknowledging that these efforts are inspired and guided by the Lord.

    • ਉਦਮੁ (Udam): Effort or diligence.
    • ਕਰਾਵਹੁ (Karāvahu): To cause or inspire.
    • ਠਾਕੁਰ (Ṭhākur): The Master or Lord.
The verse reminds us that while personal effort is essential in the spiritual journey, it is ultimately the Lord who enables and motivates us to act.
  2. ਪੇਖਤ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ (Pekhat Sādhū Saṅg):
This refers to the experience of perceiving and connecting with the Divine in the company of saints or the spiritually enlightened.

    • ਪੇਖਤ (Pekhat): To behold or see.
    • ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ (Sādhū Saṅg): The company of the holy or spiritually awakened beings.
The line emphasizes that the presence and guidance of the spiritually wise provide clarity and enhance one’s perception of the Divine.
