- Jesus' Power and Authority:
- Luke 8 demonstrates Jesus' power over various forces: evil spirits (healing the demon-possessed man), nature (calming the storm), sickness (healing the woman with bleeding), and death (raising Jairus' daughter).
- The healing of the demon-possessed man showcases Jesus' compassion and power to liberate individuals from spiritual bondage. The reaction of the community ("Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear." Luke 8:37) shows that Jesus' power was frightening to some. The man who was healed however went and spread word of what Jesus had done. "Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him. (Luke 8:39).
- The healing of the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years demonstrates the power of faith and the effectiveness of even a small act of belief: "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace." (Luke 8:48).
- The raising of Jairus' daughter emphasizes Jesus' authority over death and the importance of belief: "Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed" (Luke 8:50).
