In this special episode of Spill Your Guts, Dr. Jenn Staples, Clinical Psychologist and President of guts nonprofit, guides you through a brief sensory awareness practice that comes from Dialectical Behavior Therapy. This exercise helps you shift away from overwhelming thoughts and emotions, the way a distress tolerance skill is intended to, while grounding you in your internal sensations as a mindfulness practice would.
During this guided experience, your attention moves gently between internal sensations and calming imagery (e.g., noticing sensations in your arms and imagined environments like floating in warm water). This practice can be used anytime you need grounding, nervous system soothing, or a moment of quiet clarity.
