We discuss potential peace negotiations in Ukraine, focusing on the influence of Samuel Charap, a US analyst considered highly influential within the Biden and prospective Trump administrations. Charap advocates for a ceasefire based on the current frontline, prioritising a broader political settlement over territorial disputes, and including Western-Russia relationship normalisation. Also we explore alternative security arrangements for Ukraine beyond NATO membership, such as EU accession, and analyses the various obstacles to peace, including the differing objectives of Russia, Ukraine, and the West, and the potential for a rapid but potentially less comprehensive peace agreement under a Trump presidency.
