The Public Access Podcast 477 - Difernt's Unbelievable Journey

In this captivating episode of the Public Access Podcast, Rusty Diamond welcomes a truly remarkable guest, Difernt, whose life story is as mesmerizing as it is inspirational. Recorded on October 6, 2023, this episode promises to be a thought-provoking journey through resilience, transformation, and the power of human potential.

Born in the heart of Houston, Texas, in the Fifth Ward, Difernt's life took an extraordinary turn at the tender age of eleven when her family found themselves grappling with homelessness. Their tumultuous journey led them through a maze of adversity, from strangers' houses and cars to parks, bus stops, shelters, and even a crack house.

But here's where Difernt's story takes an awe-inspiring twist. At the age of fourteen, she was placed in foster care, a secret transition that marked the beginning of her quest for a brighter future. Difernt's determination and resilience shone through as she discovered that in the State of Texas, foster kids who aged out of care had their college tuition fees waived. This revelation ignited a spark within her, and she began using her street smarts to complement her book smarts.

The result? Difernt defied the odds. She not only emerged as an alumna of Sam Houston State University but also became a proud member of the Beta Theta Chapter of Phi Chi Theta. She graduated with a BA in International Business, accompanied by two minors in Economics & Business Communication, and capped it off with a Master's in Entrepreneurship. As if that weren't impressive enough, she's also a licensed Texas Real Estate Agent.

But Difernt's accomplishments extend far beyond her academic and professional success. She's an avid traveler, having explored over fifty countries, and she's dabbled in amateur kickboxing. Her hobbies range from reading and watching "Shark Tank" to journaling, meditating, biking, ATV riding, ziplining, and cherishing moments with her best friend – her nephew.

Difernt always knew she was meant for greatness, but she understood that becoming the person she was meant to be required addressing the inner issues that haunted her past. It wasn't until she found the courage to confront her depression and dismiss the notion that "black people don't do therapy" that her transformation truly began. Through therapy, Difernt learned to channel her negative experiences into a positive force. With strategic planning, thorough preparation, and unwavering faith, she set out to manifest the life she was destined for – a life she now hopes to inspire in others.

Now, at the age of thirty, Difernt is on the brink of her next adventure – publishing her first book, titled "WHAT IF? A Controversial Paradigm Shift." In this groundbreaking work, Difernt seeks to inspire individuals to engage in candid conversations about systemic racism and other taboo topics. She firmly believes that by fostering dialogue on these issues, we can cultivate social awareness and, over time, effect positive change. After all, as she aptly puts it, when you know better, you do better.
