Day 161 | 1 Kings 15:16-22; 2 Chronicles 16:1-10; 1 Kings 16:1-34; 1 Kings 15:23-24; 2 Chronicles; 16:11–17:19; 1 Kings 17:1-7
Today’s reading presents two sharply different trajectories: the steady decline of Israel’s kings and the enduring legacy of Judah’s. We watch as Asa, once a king who trusted God against a million-man army, now leans on human help and faces a rebuke from God. His trust falters, and consequences follow. Yet, his legacy carries on through his son Jehoshaphat, who rises with boldness, purging Judah of idolatry and deepening its devotion to the Lord. Meanwhile, Israel plunges into chaos: kings rise and fall, idol worship deepens, and evil worsens with each generation. Through it all, the message is clear—obedience and trust are not one-time decisions, but daily acts of surrender.
