The Sanskrit term ‘Agama‘ refers to the vast body of literature that provides detailed information about the methodology connected with the worship of deities in temples. Agama-s also provide valuable information on subjects like architecture, town-planning, fine arts and administration in the context of temple construction and maintenance. People unaware of the significance and logic behind the temple worship procedures naïvely believe them to be some sort of groundless mechanical rituals. This has led them to incorrectly translate the ‘Agama’ into English as ‘Ritual Text’. Agamas cannot be called as ‘ritual texts’ because they are not just fruitless mechanical exercises but based on the actual experiences of the yogi-s. This video discusses why translating ‘agamas’ as ‘ritual texts’ is highly misleading.
