India is popular across the world as the land of ahimsa. Ahimsa is an important principle of Hindu dharma and is considered as one of the yama-s in yoga. The Sanskrit word ‘ahimsa’ is commonly translated into English as ‘non-violence’. But ahimsa is a very different concept from non-violence and it is important that people reject this mistranslation. Every sincere Hindu should understand its correct meaning without any confusion. Taking appropriate punitive or restraining action against criminals is also an act of ahimsa. In this video Babaji and Rajiv examine the concepts of ahimsa and non-violence to bring out the distinctions between the two.
